Annie's Tea Rooms

Good Morning!

Just a little note to update you all on Annie's 'status' ….

Andrew and I have had long, circular chats throughout the last few months and unfortunately at this time its not viable for us to re-open this season.

There are several reasons, but in short finances are non existent, having fallen through well placed government gaps, and also being 'socially distant' from the lovely people who take the time to come and see us doesn't feel quite right!

We didn't qualify for any funding, so any savings we had to re-stock have been eaten up by household bills. We only seat 35 and we whilst we have space between tables - its not enough to meet guidelines and it wouldn't be cost effective to open at a far less capacity. Add to that the extra cost of more specialised cleaning materials and screens for the counter etc – just can't do it. THEN try and get me all technical with the 'track and trace' systems – those who know my technological prowess will understand my fear!

For me though, there is also a feeling of social responsibility – I am not sure I want to encourage people that I have come to like very much, to pop in and see us when there is always that potential that I haven't cleaned something properly – not sure I want that on my conscious!

So, we are sending Andrew out to work! Currently he is going back to his trade – painting and decorating. He has recently taken some 'outside' work (painting a house) which is keeping the wolf from the door, and hopefully this may lead to something else. In the meantime I am slowly going through the house trying to get the living accommodation a bit more reasonable to live in!
I am also spending some time on my sewing machine!!!!!! As I have found out that I am going to be a grandma in November!!!!! (I am SOOOO not ready!)

Anyway – that's us for the time being. If anything radically changes or we win the lottery we will let you know – but for now we are looking towards Christmas to re-evaluate and see where we are.
Please, all of you, stay out of harms way! I don't believe this is over, though I sincerely hope I am wrong.
We are here (well, I am!) on the phone if you want to catch up – but you all know how bad I am on the whole facetime/messengerbook stuff!
Take care
Wendy & Andrew x x x x x x x x

How rubbish for you after you've both worked so hard. Great news about the baby though! Come back to us for a bit...? 😘

❀️ let's hope for a sunny summer so Andrew stays dry and you can use your flat roof 😁 xx

Thinking of you both x

So tragic that such a well run and well loved establishment has been forced to close and remain so. Rob and I had earmarked “Annie’s Tea Rooms” as the first cafe we would visit after lockdown, we are so disappointed and sad for you both. We really hope you manage to open later in the year, expect us to be two of the first through your door! Congratulations on your forthcoming grandparent role! How lovely! Take care and stay safe. Love Hazel and Rob xxxx

Wishing you all the very best!

Bless you both! Fingers crossed for the future x Welcome to the grandparents club xxx

Sad news but totally understandable. We look forward to visiting again when you feel able to reopen. Wishing you both all the best. xx

Sorry to hear your news but fully understood after a visit to a reopened pub tonight which has nearly double the staff to try to keep within the 'new normal' regulations. Will really miss our breakfasts on the way back home and the laid back environment that you created. I am sure our 'acquired' little dog will miss chilling out on your hearth while we were enjoying your hospitality. Hoping that you will find a way to re-open next year. Good luck with the grandma activities, we are in the same position ours due in September...but since 'sonny jim' has moved to Scotland it presents a few logistical problems. Stay safe both, enjoy your summer and thanks for all that went before. Bob & Cathy

Soo sorry to read this we shall miss the lovely breakfast and amazing cream teas ! Take care x how very exciting grandparents 😍

Sorry to hear that, did you hear about the discretionary grant that’s available to businesses like yours that have had no help. It’s on the gov.uk website under covid help for businesses!

We are both so saddened to hear this news Wendy and Andrew. Milo will be upset too as he loved your doggie treats!!πŸ˜‚ We both wish you all the best in getting back on top of things. You’re both good people, so I firmly believe something will turn up out of the blue to help you. See you both in 2021! All the best Sue, Sandra and Milo from Lyme Regis xx

You’ve got to do whats right for you both, take care, stay safe xx

Keeping everything crossed that Annie's can stay open, you have worked so hard. Grandma Wendy welcome to the best bit of being a parent.

Totally understand. Such a shame though. Hopefully see you on the other side of this.

Aww I am so sorry to hear this Wendy. We are from London and we were very excited to visit as it’s a bit of a tradition for us to pop by every time we visit! But I completely understand where you are coming from and I hope things pick up for you I wish you guys the best of luck and sending our virtual hugs!
