Annie's Tea Rooms

Good Morning!

Just a little note to update you all on Annie's 'status' ….

Andrew and I have had long, circular chats throughout the last few months and unfortunately at this time its not viable for us to re-open this season.

There are several reasons, but in short finances are non existent, having fallen through well placed government gaps, and also being 'socially distant' from the lovely people who take the time to come and see us doesn't feel quite right!

We didn't qualify for any funding, so any savings we had to re-stock have been eaten up by household bills. We only seat 35 and we whilst we have space between tables - its not enough to meet guidelines and it wouldn't be cost effective to open at a far less capacity. Add to that the extra cost of more specialised cleaning materials and screens for the counter etc – just can't do it. THEN try and get me all technical with the 'track and trace' systems – those who know my technological prowess will understand my fear!

For me though, there is also a feeling of social responsibility – I am not sure I want to encourage people that I have come to like very much, to pop in and see us when there is always that potential that I haven't cleaned something properly – not sure I want that on my conscious!

So, we are sending Andrew out to work! Currently he is going back to his trade – painting and decorating. He has recently taken some 'outside' work (painting a house) which is keeping the wolf from the door, and hopefully this may lead to something else. In the meantime I am slowly going through the house trying to get the living accommodation a bit more reasonable to live in!
I am also spending some time on my sewing machine!!!!!! As I have found out that I am going to be a grandma in November!!!!! (I am SOOOO not ready!)

Anyway – that's us for the time being. If anything radically changes or we win the lottery we will let you know – but for now we are looking towards Christmas to re-evaluate and see where we are.
Please, all of you, stay out of harms way! I don't believe this is over, though I sincerely hope I am wrong.
We are here (well, I am!) on the phone if you want to catch up – but you all know how bad I am on the whole facetime/messengerbook stuff!
Take care
Wendy & Andrew x x x x x x x x

If you pay business rates or get small business rate relief you should qualify for a grant. Or if S/E there was a grant Or the tourism grant. Can't you apply for any of these?

Sorry to hear that, did you hear about the discretionary grant that’s available to businesses like yours that have had no help. It’s on the gov.uk website under covid help for businesses!

So sorry to read about your situation but understand fully how you feel. We ourselves have been going through a similar situation as your good self as B&B owners. The restrictions are very prohibitive, impractical and costly to operate with such a low return. We passed by your place only the other day hoping to see a sign to when you were to re-open? Congratulations on the forthcoming role of becoming grandparents. We hope to see you both again in the future fingers X all goes well. Nial & Heather x 😊

Wishing you both all the best. We sincerely hope that you reopen in the not too distant future. We have so enjoyed our visits but fully appreciate the dilemma you find yourselves in - such hard times. Take care.

That’s sad as was hoping you may open at the weekend and could come in for one of Andrew’s delicious and huge ploughman’s!!! 😅 But fully understand, and I hope you find yourselves in a position to re-open again when you can 🙂 xx

So very sad to read this Wendy & Andrew, you have such a fab place there, but can fully understand how hard this must have been for you both. We will keep over fingers crossed for you and hope that bug lottery win happens. You will be back I’m sure of it #staysafe

I loved coming to Annie's when I lived in Dorset. I wish you all the best for the future. And hopefully see you up and running next Season...Stay Safe

Gutted you're not opening soon, hopeful you'll be back better than ever at some point. Stay safe out there 💙

Sorry to hear your news but fully understood after a visit to a reopened pub tonight which has nearly double the staff to try to keep within the 'new normal' regulations. Will really miss our breakfasts on the way back home and the laid back environment that you created. I am sure our 'acquired' little dog will miss chilling out on your hearth while we were enjoying your hospitality. Hoping that you will find a way to re-open next year. Good luck with the grandma activities, we are in the same position ours due in September...but since 'sonny jim' has moved to Scotland it presents a few logistical problems. Stay safe both, enjoy your summer and thanks for all that went before. Bob & Cathy

Totally understand your situation I for one hope you win the lottery. Look forward to visiting you both again in the future

Aww I am so sorry to hear this Wendy. We are from London and we were very excited to visit as it’s a bit of a tradition for us to pop by every time we visit! But I completely understand where you are coming from and I hope things pick up for you I wish you guys the best of luck and sending our virtual hugs!

Totally understand and we all want to be able to return when everything is safe to do so especially missing the Andrew Breakfasts. Great news in the grandparents bit. Xxx

We are on our way to Cornwall and stopped off to visit chideock and sea town. We remembered your lovely tea room from our last visit and was looking forward to calling in for a scrummy breakfast. Sorry to see another small business suffer at the hands of covid. We have seen it back at home also. Take care and hope to see you back open one day soon xx

We miss you very much and it will be really wonderful when you can open, but in the meantime stay safe and well

So tragic that such a well run and well loved establishment has been forced to close and remain so. Rob and I had earmarked “Annie’s Tea Rooms” as the first cafe we would visit after lockdown, we are so disappointed and sad for you both. We really hope you manage to open later in the year, expect us to be two of the first through your door! Congratulations on your forthcoming grandparent role! How lovely! Take care and stay safe. Love Hazel and Rob xxxx

Just arrived in Charmouth today after last year visited. We visit Charmouth twice a year and always had something to eat at this place. We miss all your home made foods! Hopefully you will be back again. Take care xx

Look forward to when you can open. You make such nice things with your machine.how about selling some on marketplace on facebook.

Never visited but kept meaning to. You echo my sentiments totally and good luck for the future

How rubbish for you after you've both worked so hard. Great news about the baby though! Come back to us for a bit...? 😘

Aah this is sad news but completely understandable. Just know that we would have loved to have visited your tea room when we come down in August. Maybe next year. Jennifer Liggins

O no ,so sorry we all miss you. Love from Dave and sally at Sidmouth

Keeping everything crossed that Annie's can stay open, you have worked so hard. Grandma Wendy welcome to the best bit of being a parent.

Totally understand. Such a shame though. Hopefully see you on the other side of this.

Please join ExcludedUK - Official community for those excluded from Government support which has been specifically set up to get our voices heard. They are doing a fab job and even have an All Party Parliamentary Group set up as well as the backing of Martin Lewis and various MP's. Keep strong x

Take care both of you and we will see you both soon when all this is over when ever that will be.
